The Spartans were a very war like country and fought for their rights, but before any of this happened there was a huge drama that made them be about war. The Spartans slaves put up a rebellious decision to fight their rights. The slaves won and ever since then, Sparta has been a military country. From about 350 BC till 700 BC they were continueing with this process. There was no such thing as luxury, culture or even art. The men in the house were always out training and the women in the house were always at home.
Sparta was a city/state like most ancient Greece places. They would be surronded by farmlands and other desserted areas. The farms made and produced the food/resources that the people needed. The farmers made lots of money with this process. like evry settlement it has its own laws and orders. Their country became very powerful and strong because of their strength, tactics.
The first place that the Spartans defeated was called the Peloponnese peninsula. Ancient Sparta wasn't as simple and easy going as it is today. Sparta was harsh, tough and strong. Ancient Greek writers claimeed that if there sick or hurt babies they would be put in the wild to die. Even though this was beleived to be true, there is still some doubt. Even the boys of the age of seven started training and any personal needs were not permitted.
As the Spartan women weren't allowed to become citizens it meant that they weren't allowed to vote either. One of the only public things that the women could do, was to appear in court and to also own some land. It is proved there were more women then men because most men got killed in battles. The clothes that the women wore was pretty simple. They wore plain clothes and their hair was cut short. They were not allowed to wear perfume or make-up. If they were seen in jewellery they would get punished. Just like men, they were trained to be fit. Their excercises insited of dancing naked and much more. The thing they were most in charge of was to have healthy children, paticulary boys.
Spartan families did not own their slaves. The slaves were owned by the state. This process allowed families to allocte one slave to each job at a different time. Because the slaves eventually overtook the Spartans, the Spartans were starting to worry about a revolution. Soon, the slaves otherwise known as helots put up a rebbelion. This lead the Spartans to become a very harsh, military state.
